Brown, Russell E.
Avon: March 12, 2017, at age 88. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Janet; daughter, Beth (Philip) McLaughlin and son, Scott (Kathleen) Brown; 4 grandchil­dren, R.J. and Alyssa McLaugh­lin, Kellie and Todd Brown; brother, Fred Brown; many nieces and nephews. Prede­ceased by 4 sisters; Evelyn Schwartz, Margaret Backus, Laura Gruner and Joanne Brown and 5 brothers; Harold Jr., Leonard, Charles, Arnold, and Louis Brown.
Russ proudly served in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in Korea, during the Korean War. He was the past commander of the VFW Post 5292. Past member of the NYS Umpires Association for 45 years and was inducted into the referee hall of fame. He officiated 20 years as a basketball referee. He retired from the Rush-Henrietta Central School District, as a teacher with many years of service. He was member of the Avon United Methodist Church for 60 years. He was an avid gardener and had a love for sports and was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He had coached little league baseball in Avon.

Friends may call Friday 2-4, 7-9PM at the Stephenson-Dough­erty Funeral Home, Inc., 350 Gen­esee St., Avon. His Memorial Ser­vice will be held Saturday 11AM at the Avon United Methodist Church, 130 Genesee St., Avon. Spring In­terment Avon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Avon Ambulance, 74 Genesee Street Avon, NY 14414 or the Joseph Gallipeau American Legion Post # 294, P.O. Box 294 Avon, NY 14414.
